A message from CEO, Marcia Reissig

I want to start by telling you a story that describes how the staff at Sutter VNA & Hospice show their commitment to providing quality, compassionate care to our patients and their families' throughout the communities of Northern California.

Adapting to the needs of the patient is a vital part of what makes Home Health and Hospice such a crucial and unique aspect of the healthcare system. A great example of how SVNAH Hospice staff are adapting happened recently in Sacramento.

Sam, a 73 year old resident of Arizona suffered from Congestive heart failure. For years he and his wife have followed the State Fair circuit with their stand, which sells t-shirts and souvenirs. Sam’s doctor suggested that he not make the California trip, or any trip for that matter. The doctors believed that it was time for Sam to begin thinking about hospice care. Like so many folks, Sam and his wife didn't quite accept the medical advice and journeyed to Sacramento with their booth for this annual event.

Soon after their arrival, Sam declined rapidly and became bed bound in their trailer. Sacramento Hospice supervisor Andree Bouty got a call from Sam's wife with a simple question "How can you help us?" That was all Andree needed to put a plan in motion. With the help and cooperation of Sam's physicians and under the direction of our own Dr. Jim McGregor, Sam began receiving hospice services in his trailer, at the fairgrounds. Dr. McGregor even made a "home" visit to the trailer.

Even as you read this, Sacramento Hospice staff are responding to families like Sam's with Nursing, Hospice Aides, Social Work, and Chaplain Services. They adapt to the needs of the patient and provide care and comfort where and when it's needed most. Thank you Sacramento Hospice.

There isn't enough room to share all the wonderful stories just like these which we have heard over the past 100 years from our patients, families and donors. As the new CEO of Sutter VNA & Hospice, I am deeply touched by the dedication of our staff, our volunteers and our donors. And what a privilege to lead an organization with such an impressive history! We have grown from a handful of visiting nurses caring for victims after the 1906 San Francisco earth quake to a homecare company now serving over 9000 patients a day in twelve counties across Northern California. While our efforts are far-reaching our mission is still focused on one place only, home, where the family can remain intimately involved with the care of the patient in a familiar and comfortable setting. We provide comprehensive home care services including skilled nursing care, physical, occupational and speech therapy, home oxygen, home medical equipment, home infusion medications, flu and wellness programs as well as programs and services for end of life care. We are happy to answer any of your questions about our organization or the services we provide. Click here to contact us.

Thank you for considering Sutter VNA & Hospice.
